About
Maybe it was the steady diet of Newsweek, Rolling Stone and MAD Magazine that I read as a kid. Maybe it was the contagious love for music I inherited from my dad and for the written word from my mom. Or maybe I was just born to write.
Whatever the case, writing — specifically thorough and thought-provoking journalism — has been my passion for as long as I can remember.
Through working at metropolitan dailies The Indianapolis Star and Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, alternative weeklies Metromix and Pittsburgh City Paper, Paste Magazine and a handful of leading music blogs, I’ve gained an appreciation for the time, effort and drive it takes to create quality content for a news outlet.
Of course, the world of journalism is in a state of change; with change, we must adapt. Though many journalists are hesitant to step towards online content and multimedia production, I believe new media is simply a new way of telling the same vivid, engaging stories. As a journalist, it is my goal to balance the familiar thrill of chasing a story and writing both creatively and quickly with the new excitement of filming and editing multimedia.
I cast aside the fear that the written word is on its deathbed; rather, it simply must scoot over and make room for a new bedfellow.
Please take your time to read through the stories I’ve worked hard to tell truthfully, entertainingly and engagingly.
Thank you,
Justin Jacobs
